We think that the machine has to adapt the user needs, not the opposite. Since functionality is mandatory, the big discussion is about how the user interacts with it.

Well designed software can be smart enough to not only store and compute user data. Rather than simply processing boring or complex operations, they can help the user to discover stuff on him, his company, his projects, his tasks, etc.

Basically, a software needs to be tolerant to variability. To do this, the machine has to store information in an invariant way, as well as the human brain.

Invariance of data may be obtained through the massive use of meta-data.

With a combination of simple and elegant meta-data exploration paradigms, emergence is possible and the computer gets smart.
